When is a Cake Not a Cake?

When is a cake not a cake? SURPRISE! When it's this gorgeous paper cake from Tracey Mason.

While this cake looks good enough to eat, it's actually meant for guests to deposit their gift cards for your wedding in! You can see it and the story behind it at Tracey Mason's Studio

Tracey is a creative DIY'er who has a creative web site filled with fun to make crafts that will knock your socks off. She also created a matching card to go with this cake. Why not create a memorable gift for the bride and groom to use at their wedding? Tracey also offers how to directions for the paper rosettes that decorate this 'cake.'

Wedding Cake Basics

Weddings in the 21st century have evolved from the fruit cakes of old to newer and more elaborate structures. Some cakes today follow the three tier white cake you are accustomed to seeing while others go creative and choose cakes that reflect their personalities as a couple. Today's wedding couple is better informed and usually know what they want. Many bakers have computer programs that allow the couple to see what their cake will look before placing their order. This way they can take part in the design and be sure the cake they get is their "dream cake." Consultants at a good bakery can help a couple choose a cake that fits their vision and the theme of their wedding, without ignoring the realities of their wedding budget. A wedding cake today is as much about the couple and their style as any other part of their wedding. A wedding cake's theme and style should match the rest of your wedding.
