I Heart This Cake!

Wedding cakes come decorated in a variety of ways, from flowers to fondant, but the simple pink heart added to the side of this one really caught my eye.  How about you?  What kind of cake are you having? Flavor? Filling? Icing? Fondant? Fancy or plain? Post and let us know.

Heart Wedding Cake

All Photos and design from The Art of The Wedding Cake

Cake designer Erica O'Brien posted a tutorial on how to make this unique cake on her site The Art of The Wedding Cake.  The gradation of colors from dark to light give this cake a 'WOW' factor.  Not only that, Erica shows you how to make some extra hearts to use as favors for either a wedding, shower or even a little girl's birthday party.

Using Wilton Meringue, 2 Cups of sugar, warm water, paste food coloring, a large cutting board, parchment paper, and Ateco aspic cutters or small cookie cutters. Visit Erica's site for exact directions as well as additional 'how to' photos.  (You can pick up most of these items at your local craft store.)

I didn't try to make a wedding cake but did make some of the hearts, it's easy and was an afternoon of fun.  I used them to decorate some cupcakes since I didn't need a three tier wedding cake! Give it a try!
